On August 25, 1974, Galilee Baptist chuurch had its humble beginning as sixty-six men, women, boys, and girls assemled in a small garage building in Pageland, South Carolina. The congregation, under the leadership of Pastor Ronnie Simpson, could no longer tolerate the liberalism and compromise found within the Southern Baptist Convention. Following the definite leadership of God, the decision was made to organize an Independent Baptist church.
In November of 1974, the church congregation relocated to a building which had formerly been a grocery store. This building was located on Highway 601 South, approximately seven miles from the Monroe city limit. Shortly after the move, the church began a bond program as a means of securing funds to purchase ten acres of land and building the existing sanctuary.
On January 19, 1975, the church held a ground breaking ceremony on the present site of the sanctuary. The church consisted of eighty-seven members.
On August 31, 1975, dedication services were held for the church building. The church was dedicated to the Nation, to the Bible, to the Cross, and to World-wide missions. Many of the church members helped in the construction of the building. The church had one hundred and five members at this time.
From August of 1974 until July of 1985 the church was pastored by Brother Ronnie Simpson. On July 7, 1985, Brother Brother Simpson resigned as pastor to enter full-time evangelism. On September 8, 1985, Brother Steven Griffith preached a trial sermon at the church and was voted in as pastor.
Brother Steven Griffith pastored Galilee Baptist Church from September 1985 until the spring of 2001. In June 2001, Brother Andy Wells preached his first sermon at the church and was voted in receiving unanimous support from the congregation. Brother Andy Wells continues to pastor the church. Under his leadership, the church has faithfully continued in the direction it was started.
From August 1974, until the present, the church has held true to the doctrines of the KJV 1611 Bible. Faithfully and cheerfully the church has endeavored to carry out the Great Commission of evangelizing the world. through prayer and consistent financial support, missionaries are enabled to go and fulfill the call of God upon their lives. At present, Galilee supports many missionaries worldwide.
Truly, the Lord has blessed Galilee Baptist Church in so many ways. Our present facilities combined with approximately thirty-five acres of land are valued at well over one million dollars. The church is completely debt free and able to give bountifully every year for the furtherance of the Gospel. Oh, that we might give God all the glory and praise due His name.
